The Metal Toy Soldiers of Wm. Hocker, Proprietor

Here is presented a most colorful range of goods. In 1877 Lord Lytton, the newly appointed Viceroy of India, conceives a plan to add "Empress of India" to Victoria's titles, thus formalizing 100 years of British control of the sub-continent and furthering the establishment of Britain as an Imperial Power. A grand Durbar or Assemblage is arranged, to the questionable interest of the Indian princes obliged to attend, and the proclamation of Her title is made.
