"Beneath The Palms (Key West) 1886"

Randy Bond - 22Nov10 3:23PM

American artist Winslow Homer painted men, women and children of African descent during the American Civil War, the Era of Reconstruction of the 1870s in Virginia and later during the latter decades of the Gilded Age in Florida (1885-90, 1903-1905) and the Bahamas (1884-85, 1898-99). Among my favorite watercolors done in Florida is Under A Palm Tree dated 1886. I have used one of the figures from William Hocker's set 325 to create a tribute to Homer's watercolor. As many of you know, Homer's compositional style and use of watercolor have had a major impact upon my photography.
